I've accepted a position I didn't tell you all about before: Assistant Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at AU. This is a job at the place I've worked for a couple of years as a grad fellow, but it's a fairly substantial promotion. It's also full-time, well-paid, with benefits: A Real Job.

Plus points: I like the people, I'm happy about the job, and major plus, I don't have to look for another job until I want to (at least a year I think, probably more like two). I can take courses at AU for free, finish my degree, build some valuable skills... Hooray!

Minus: I start NOW. I have to suck all of the knowledge out of the current Assistant Director's head in the next two days. But I still need/want/plan to graduate in May. Wish me luck!

..

I realize from [livejournal.com profile] hypoxia's post that this must have happened because I just printed 25 beautiful copies of my resume on fancy paper, and bought a padfolio thingy. Heh.

This is a real after-you-graduate job, right? Then congratulations. On the plus side, you don't have to move. But it's not an NGO. Are you going to keep looking, or sit on this for a while?

I promised two years, and I'll stick to that (unless something drastic happens). I plan to keep my ears open and stay aware of opportunities I might be interested in... but ultimately, I think this job will make me that much more desirable to NGOs (or Peace Corps, or whoever).

Sweet! So I guess you'll be in DC for a while, then.

I'm assuming azure_armand has obligations in DC, so having to move somewhere else would be...awkward at least? Eek.

Well, he has a job here, like I do (now). Leaving would require notice, and would likely happen in the summer sometime, but could happen any time if vital. Jobs (and friends) are all the "obligations" we have here, though. Family's all over the place but not in DC.

Good luck with finishing everything off for May - sounds like it might be stressful but I'm sure you'll manage to pull it off well, as usual!

So what are you going to do with your imaginary job now that you have a real one?

WOOHOO! It's the real world, except you continue to go to the same place you did for school.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you with the full time job/work thing. I just keep on focusing on getting to May 14. When I'm getting overwhelmed, my mantra has become "I just need to get to May 14." I find that if I don't think about everything I have to do, and just break it down to managable tasks, that definitely helps the anxiety.

awesome

Hah.

It does, perhaps, mean that I am fated to take scuba certification for credit, though. That idea amuses me.
