Web folks: my work is (quickly) debating between Drupal and Kentico for its next CMS for a couple of sites. Anyone have any favorite CMS and reasons why? (For us, must include social/rich media; must be pretty easy for the average bear to add content, but still possible for more sophisticated user to monkey behind the scenes; must be inexpensive with majority of price up front; must be secure.)

Tell me your stories and don't worry too much about my organization's requirements; that discussion could take hours and we just don't have time.

Any reasons why? I like it, but I need some ammunition to convince people that it is not going to be stupidly expensive to hire people to implement it for us - none of us has time to become a Drupal developer, not going to be full of security holes, and not going to be really hard to use.

I know Thomas dug into the CMS options for CVG, and he chose Drupal because he liked the security and the wide range of potential professional developers.

Drupal. It's free and open source, very popular, highly customizable should be easy to find developers. It's gotten tempered over the last few years so IMO they are in good shape security wise.

I've never even heard of the other product and I hate their website.

Drupal was one of the short list CMSs for our web redesign, but we ended up with dotCMS Enterprise. Not sure why. Not cheap, but there is a free version.

I find it charming that old lines from cartoon characters from the early 1960s are still showing up in people's speech today. I believe "smarter than the average bear" was from Bullwinkle.

Nope, it's from Yogi Bear.

I am not sure how I got that wrong. As soon as you posted it, I knew you were right.

So long as you aren't swallowing MS Sharepoint, you can't be going too far wrong :) (or should that be a :( because the lesson represents several years is pain and wasted professional development?)

I'm interested in the fact that Drupal has RDFa built in, though I don't know the details

Thank goodness Sharepoint was rejected (for a CMS) early on. Sorry to hear of your pain.
I'd like to go with Drupal but it really seems unlikely that I will be allowed to. We'll see. Anything will be an improvement from what I have now.
