Sep. 20th, 2006 06:06 pmI did not, alas, talk like a pirate yesterday. Well, not much. But I'm glad you all did.
Aside from making a lot of food, I've also been working hard. The stress levels I talked about in my last work-related post have, alas, not abated. I've had several major curve balls thrown at me in the last week or so, and it's been really hard to keep a positive attitude. Thankfully I can talk to people pretty readily. One of the other managers complimented me on how calm and professional I was in a meeting today; honestly I could have easily gotten very upset (I was pretty upset last night). I need to figure out how to delegate more (although I already delegate a fair amount), and also how to say "No" more to other managers. By many accounts I am... far more engaged in the various projects others do, than was my predecessor; now while this is good, it is also a contributor to me taking on Way Too Much. I know this is vague and therefore slightly uninteresting to read, but giving too many details is potentially problematic (HR stuff, budget stuff) and more importantly, boring as heck. Just trust me: it's been pretty crazy.
At any rate. Work. Here I am, still. But I am taking a break, getting some dinner, and then trying to finish clearing my desk a bit.
At 7 I am stopping, to spend an hour prepping for SCUBA class. Yes, folks, I actually have (a) homework and (b) a quiz in class! Tonight's class is a dry class; classroom only, no pool. So I have a little quiz and two homework assignments to turn in. Of course the homework is already done, and if I cannot pass the quiz it will be because I fell asleep in class - it's not rocket science.

Not rocket science...
