In lieu of actual content, I will share with you a cooking/kitchen implements meme.

Bold the ones you have and use at least once a year, italicize the ones you have and don't use, strike through the ones you have had but got rid of. (Things in plain text with no change are things I simply don't have and never did.)

"I wonder how many pasta machines, breadmakers, juicers, blenders, deep fat fryers, egg boilers, melon ballers, sandwich makers, pastry brushes, cheese boards, cheese knives, electric woks, miniature salad spinners, griddle pans, jam funnels, meat thermometers, filleting knives, egg poachers, cake stands, garlic crushers, martini glasses, tea strainers, bamboo steamers, pizza stones, coffee grinders, milk frothers, piping bags, banana stands, fluted pastry wheels, tagine dishes, conical strainers, rice cookers, steam cookers, pressure cookers, slow cookers, spaetzle makers, cookie presses, gravy strainers, double boilers (bains marie), sukiyaki stoves, ice cream makers, fondue sets, healthy-grills, home smokers, tempura sets, tortilla presses, electric whisks, cherry stoners, sugar thermometers, food processors, bacon presses, bacon slicers, mouli mills, cake testers, pestle-and-mortars, and sets of kebab skewers languish dustily at the back of the nation's cupboards."

...Hmm. My results are rather dull/satisfying. Mostly I either have never owned such a thing, or I own it and use it at least once a year.

My fondue set gets used about once every 2-3 years.

Note that the two thermometers (meat/sugar) are one digital thermometer, and the cake stand (I think that's what it is) is used regularly, but seldom for cakes.

Miniature salad spinners? Why would you have a mini one? We do use our normal sized one regularly.

Dude, if I was near you I would totally claim your ice cream maker. Or we could share time on it. Alas!

Hey, we totally use the blender at least once a year! Or I do, anyway. Usually to blend up spice-onion-garlic pastes for curries, though so it's probably redundant with the little Braun multifunction thing. Which we should get an upgraded version of anyway, that thing is probably 12 or 13 years old now and is coming apart from use. Anyway.

And I use our garlic press too. No taking away my garlic implements.

And steam cookers should be italicized-- or did we give away that food steamer already, the one that always made the complaining noise when you turn it on?

You use miniature salad spinners for when you just want to eat a little salad.

"Miniature salad spinners? Why would you have a mini one?"

Microgreens, of course.

(Actually, I have no idea. We use our normal sized one, too.)

Looking at the list it was striking to me how many of these are irrelevant if you don't eat animal products.

I have a rice cooker, dehydrator, blender, popcorn maker, bread machine, sandwich maker, electric tea kettle, crock pot, ice cream maker, food processor, and a juicer. I haven't used the bread machine or the sandwich maker since I developed the wheat intolerance, and I only use the juicer and dehydrator occasionally. I am glued to most of the rest of the stuff.

Yeah, there's at least 6 that I wouldn't see used in a vegan kitchen, although a lot of them just have names that relate to animal products. I mean, I have used my milk frother as much for soy milk as for real milk, for example. The digital thermometer I have can be used on animal products but would be just as useful on candy, say. But yes, I can't imagine to what use a vegan would put a bacon whatchamacallit. (Heck if I know what they do.)

What I was most struck by was how many single-use products are included in that list.

Also, for some reason I need to say: You can pry my blender from my cold dead hands. First and most favorite kitchen gadget. Because it's not my kitchen if I can't make hummus in it.

I have a candy thermometer, a meat thermometer, and an oven thermometer. My dad went crazy on the thermometers a few christmases ago. Sometimes I use the meat thermometer for making tea.

I make hummus in my food processor. And pesto. Me and that thing are getting married. My dates are going to be all like "Why is the food processor in bed with us?" and I'm going to be like "LOVE ME LOVE MY FOOD PROCESSOR".
