I've spent a week sick with various things - it seems like it's a flu that just won't quit and takes on as many symptoms as it can. Starting last Monday night, I've run the gamut of sore throat, fever, chills, aches, coughing, sneezing, stuffy head, congested chest... and then to top it off this last weekend, conjunctivitis. Yes, apparently the flu can give you pinkeye, essentially. Well, the viral kind anyway. Also, apparently conjunctivitis almost always starts as a virus, but then (I guess while your eyes are weak anyway due to the virus and vulnerable because of all the crud and you rubbing your sore eyes) often becomes a bacterial infection.

As we all know, there is nothing to do for viruses other than rest and drink lots of fluids. Or, with the eye thing, to put a nice hot wet washcloth on your eyes for five minutes a few times a day. So I have done that, and been washing my hands like a madwoman and NOT touching my eyes, and I went to the doctor yesterday and (1)was told that I can be at work safely, and (2)got some antibiotic eye drops in case the infection gets worse. I have now gotten to the point in my day where looking at the computer monitor or any bright lights is really hurting my eyes. This means I am now typing with my eyes closed. (Considering that I do not touch type properly with my fingers on the home keys, this may result in hilarity. Shockingly, I just typed those last two sentences [and now this one too] with my eyes closed and did not make any mistakes.)

Anyway, I am getting better, I am not contagious, but I am SICK of being sick. So tonight I might go to the National Poetry Slam thing but other than that I want an easy restful night.

Also, I really wish I had a pair of sunglasses with me. I took them out of my purse this morning. Why??

At work last week (yes, I went despite being sick, as I have no vacation/sick time left) I received a gigantic, humongous zucchini. Seriously, this thing is the size of a baby. Not a preemie either. Then we went to the farmer's market on Saturday and I went a little crazy for veggies. So now at home we have:
pesto
tabbouleh
beet salad
gazpacho

Plus [livejournal.com profile] azure_armand made an amazing stir fry for us out of broccoli and green beans (and mock duck and tofu and other stuff).
And we have eggplants (with the zucchini, I think they will become ratatouille), beet greens (for use in making lentil-beet-green-soup), and fresh mint (no plan in mind, which to me means it's time for mojitos!). Maybe more produce, but I'm sitting here typing with my eyes closed right now, not looking in the fridge.

I really like living next door to a really good farmer's market.

I totally thought I was going to have a third thing here, because, you know, three unrelated things make a post. Too bad, two unrelated things will have to do.

Sorry to hear about the damned flu or whatever. I wonder of H1N1 is reemerging?
