You once before said called me arrogant for saying this, but I find it hard to be really inspired by a lunar eclipse because I've seen so many.

When I was back in middle school I remember preping my telescope hours ahead of time to watch lunar eclipses. But after seen a dozen or so, they kind of lost their magic.

I've also found that they are more disappointing in Mn than what I remember from living in Cincinnati. Here there always seems to be that sliver at the very bottom that is still bright. Even during the supposedly 100% eclipse we had several years ago, there was still a bright spot at the bottom of the moon.

Perhaps it's also that I've been wanting my whole life to see a full solar eclipse. A lunar eclipse just seems to fall short of my expectations. Sort of like wanting Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream, and being stuck with generic brand vanilla. Even though it's ice cream, and probably still tastes good, it just doesn't meet your expectations. Some day I hope to plan a vacation around being at the right place and time to witness a full solar eclipse. I just hope it doesn't rain.

Today, I don't think that's arrogant, but I do think it's a bit of a pity. I'm trying to remember to enjoy things in life that are wonderful even if they happen frequently - walking home as it was snowing, for example, I was looking up and around and enjoying the snow instead of watching my feet and hurrying along. It made me happy. I've seen lunar eclipses before too, obviously, and I did think to myself, this isn't quite as good as watching one while floating in a pool, but it was still beautiful and awesome.

I do hope you get to see your solar eclipse some day, and that it doesn't rain. It looks like there's one coming up this August (http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/solar.html) that you'd have to go north for (http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEmono/TSE2008/TSE2008.html); not as long a trip as to view the 2009 (http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEmono/TSE2009/TSE2009.html) or 2010 (http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEmono/TSE2010/TSE2010.html) ones.

I'd be all for a July trip to Easter Island in 2010. Summer in the South Pacific sounds quite nice.

In reality it's the 2017 (http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEgoogle/SEgoogle2001/SE2017Aug21Tgoogle.html) eclipse that I'm most hopeful about. Kentucky sounds a lot easier to get to.
