Well, I got my chance to vote today, and took it. Initially, I thought that voting this late wouldn't really have any significance... and because I live in DC it still may not, but it's closer to being meaningful than I would have thought.

I'm still excited to be a part of the democratic process. Does that make me naive?

No, it makes you a patriot. That's a good thing, because there aren't enough real ones.
