You and your class *are* very tough. Lake Superior, when you know what to expect, is something you get used to.
As for the tour? Seen one sunken bus, you've seen them all... boats and ships are a different matter, of course.
And frankly, for your first couple dives, you should push only a small ways past the previous comfort zone- try something new each time, but don't over-push; it's like hiking that way. Too many stressors too fast will lead to something unpleasent. Take it a little at a time, and pretty soon you'll be out-swimming even an old walrus like me.
