It was a good birthday weekend.

Friday I went out and had a girls' night with [livejournal.com profile] starfive and [livejournal.com profile] r0ckc4ndy and [livejournal.com profile] spacebug. [livejournal.com profile] starfive fed us delicious spanakopita and then we went out to the zombie bar. We managed to get there at a perfect time - there was a booth just waiting for us - and we enjoyed the drinks so we ended up staying there the whole time rather than bar-hopping. Probably the most amusing part of the evening was when it had gotten quite busy in the bar, and some guy came over and said, "If we buy you a round of drinks, can my friends and I sit with you?" We agreed since we really did have more room than we needed, and it turned out to not only be a way to get some free drinks but an amusing interaction too. It's always fun to see people do a double or triple-take when [livejournal.com profile] r0ckc4ndy, wearing something pink, stripey and cleavage-y, with her blond hair and sparkly makeup, says "I'm a lawyer". Our table-mates weren't any better at guessing the rest of our jobs, but hers was probably the best reveal. To be fair, we only managed to guess one of the four of their jobs, so we weren't much better!

Saturday there was a Concom meeting that took up a good chunk of the day, but during which I got to see a number of my favorite people, including [livejournal.com profile] alisgray, with whom I carpooled. (For those of you for whom "Concom meeting" means less than nothing, suffice it to say it's a regular organizational meeting for the annual geeky science-fiction convention that I attend and volunteer to help organize.) Then I went home to get a bit of a lie-down before we went out to a mutual birthday dinner with [livejournal.com profile] whitefox77 at the Crescent Moon bakery. Their food is so good - if you haven't had it, try it. It's Afghani, which is delicious on its own; but in addition to the the rice/kebabs/spinach/eggplant sort of thing, they also have great pizza. They do both Afghani style "football" pizza, which is just a little spicy, and standard round American pizza (let's be honest, it's not Italian). Both kinds are really good.
And then we went to Ground Zero to see the Lords of Acid do a show. I hadn't seen them in maybe 10 years, and I'm not a huge fan, but they do put on a really fun show, very energetic. Because we arrived late, we missed one band I would have liked to see, most of one band I was totally not thrilled about, and apparently also missed a minor fiasco of having to stand in line a half hour after the doors were due to open. All told, I'm happier to have been at the Crescent Moon. Anyway, we had a good time, and we stayed and danced for a while after; it was the first time I'd gone out dancing in ages, and it was really fun!

Sunday, my actual birthday, I mostly had a goal of not working too hard at anything. :-) We Skyped with my folks for a while, with a little bonus Happy Birthday-singing from my niece, brother and sis-in-law, who are visiting my parents. I miss them. It was really good to see them, even if it was through a computer. Anyway, then we went out to the Seward Cafe for brunch and met up with a nice group of people there. I felt totally loved, and also like it was really easy and low effort. Win! For the afternoon and evening I pretty much succeeded in my goal of not working too hard - I did some hand embroidery for a piece I'm working on, messed around online, cuddled with the cats, napped with the husband, and ate a delicious birthday cookie courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] s4. Eventually I thought it'd be nice to get out and see a movie, so we took [livejournal.com profile] spacebug out with us and saw The Adjustment Bureau at the Grandview. I liked it - a Philip K. Dick story with some light similarity to Inception in the cinematic interpretation, plus some romance = good combination for me. And then we came home and I made soup (the only "productive" thing I did all day) and we ate it and hung out a bit and watched some Twin Peaks and went to bed.

It was a good weekend. And now I am 35.

True fact: thirty-five is the most attractive age you can be.

Happy Belated Birthday! I'm sorry I didn't call but my phone is out of service where I'm at and I've lost track of time/dates. I'm very sorry I missed it all.
