We moved!

A bunch of people showed up to help at our two different locations, which is completely awesome. The process went very quickly, actually, other than the fact that we really needed two pickup trucks and only one person had one. Which just meant that the heroic pickup truck driver had to go to both locations. Anyway, on Saturday, all of the big stuff got moved, and the vast majority of the small stuff.

We ate pizza and thanked our helpers (thank you!), went to the Tiny Shanty fundraiser, and then went back to the old place to sleep. Because it seemed easiest to sleep there Saturday night, and keep the cats there, and then move cats + bedding the next day. Sadly this meant we slept on a very hard futon Saturday night - as we'd moved the good one - but it had to do. Sunday was a lot slower. We moved a couple of carloads of stuff that had been left, finishing up by moving the cats.

The cats are adjusting well to the new place. Bagheera has already figured out how to climb up into the lofted area (he climbs right up the ladder/stairs) and how to get down on his own, and apparently he likes it up there. Tigra is still sticking to the main floor, but seems fairly relaxed. Good job, cats.

Today I'm sore and tired, but happy. We're not quite done moving stuff yet, and there's a lot of boxes to unpack at the new place, and there's stuff yet to be delivered that will then have to be put together etc... but it's so exciting to be in our new home. No pictures yet, but I'll try to take some tonight.

[livejournal.com profile] azure_armand pointed out that in DC, when we moved in the place was so full of boxes piled on top of each other we could barely move. With this move, with the same amount of stuff, almost none of the boxes are on top of each other, and we can walk around easily. In other words, we have a lot more room. Yay!

In the process of moving, we're getting rid of some things. Here's a few that I know right now, but more are likely to come up. Free.
*queen futon, as I mentioned, it's quite hard, it makes a good second layer of futon though
*full/queen futon frame, basic wood, solid, raises the futon off the ground by about 6-8 inches, does not transform into couch
*my Ren Fest boots, black leather, slightly above the knee, women's size 8.5 or slightly smaller than that, worn for a couple of seasons but still have plenty of life in them. They're not the super awesome ones, they're what I could afford, basically a slightly taller version of the leftmost thing in this picture:

Congrats on the easy move and happy kitties! Sorry Scott and I were unavailable to help out. Glad to know you had good help.

Do you have light enough for some plants? Do you like plants? If so, I would like to give you a couple as a house warming gift.

We have very good southern light, and I like plants. It's possible the cats will eat them, so if they are toxic to cats I'd rather not have them... but for other plant-survival issues I may try hanging baskets in front of the windows. Thanks!

Cool! My cats don't really bother most of my plants, but putting them up would be a good idea if you are concerned. I will get those to you at some point in the near future!

Can you pick it up? This weekend maybe? I can show you how to take it apart. It packs down pretty small.

We may be interested in the futon...I have no idea how we'd get it home though...and it would be extra "guest" bed, so if someone needs it for a primary bed, it should probably go to them.

I also have a pair of the fest boots that need a home - mine are the knee high version on the left. They are size 9-ish I think. I don't really remember though.

I think who gets the futon depends on who, between [livejournal.com profile] eatsoylentgreen and you, can get the thing transported first. :-} Would you want the frame too? The futon itself would roll up and could be tied into a roll small enough to go into your back seat, probably. Maybe your trunk, if that's a bigger space. The frame breaks down to be quite small, although the pieces are long.
