figment: A needle, thread, and thimble (sewing)

At one point, I remember resolving never to sew my own wedding dress because it would be too stressful. What possessed me to not only break my resolve, but to decide to invent the pattern, too?

Gah.

You know I've been wondering that myself but felt that asking would probably be a bad idea.

:P For a better answer: Because you are who you are, and I'd wonder what alien entity had taken over your body if you got married in a dress you didn't make yourself.

The wedding we went to last night featured the bride and groom wearing handmade-by-her outfits. Her dress was orange-red, and his vest and her bolero jacket were a lighter orange brocade. They looked wonderful.

And that's why you're doing it, too: because you'll look beautiful and because you want to have the dress you want.

If it's stressful, is there any way you can lessen the stress?

hugs,

K. [[who knows that the stores are filled with beautiful dresses at this (prom) time of year, and you can bail on the project pretty easily]

Thanks for the reminder (and the wedding sounds gorgeous!)...
it's getting better. I just had a bit of a meltdown last night. Things seem much more promising today.

And, based on the last pictures you posted, even if you stop now you'll have a very pretty wedding dress.

Here's the pic (http://www.blackholeofphotography.com/gallery/v/wedding/IMG_7822.JPG.html) of the happy couple, in their handmade finery.

Because you want the wedding to be yours (well, and J's, but you know what I mean.)

Because costumers and seamstresses are inherently insane. Also, you didn't want to look like an expensive 'everyone else with $$ looks exactly like me' on your wedding. You will look stunning and like no other (thus, the no pattern thing). AND you will be FAR more comfortable in your short dress at your reception than most brides!!!! =o)
