Weekend report

Over the weekend I saw two plays: The Odyssey (unfortunately for all of you the run is now over) and Roundheads & Peakheads (lucky for you, this continues through March 15). Our motivation for seeing both was that we had a friend in the play, and in both cases the friend (and really, the rest of the cast too) did a wonderful job. The plays were very different, of course, but both good. I liked the adaptation of the story of the Odyssey, and thought it made it a bit more accessible; some stories are much easier to get into as theater than they are as literature, in my opinion. (Waiting for Godot is another example of a play that's much more accessible as a live performance, for me.) Roundheads & Peakheads was fascinating and strange, and had some awesome musical numbers in it, was occasionally quite funny, and had some fascinating staging/use of video in conjunction with live actors. I had no idea, going into it, that it was written in 1933 (I think); it seemed very current although it was also clear that it was addressing early parts of the Holocaust. Highly recommended, and a steal at only $10.
We also went out and stayed up incredibly late on Saturday night, drinking andbullshitting talking until bar close. That was really fun.
The rest of the weekend was very productive, with cooking and sewing galore. I am not sure I like how the mock-up of one part of my wedding dress is coming out, but that's why you do mock-ups with old bedsheets instead of making everything out of the expensive fabric to start with.
It snowed a lot in DC overnight, and many schools and businesses are closed... but AU is, of course, still open. We had a delayed start but that's it. Oh well.
