we have a backup generator for the electronics but it just lasts an hour. I'm glad we were only without power for 3 hours but man the tree damage for our neighbors is bad!
Oh, and keep your ears open for tornado warnings. That kind of storm (as well as the one that is currently moving towards you) have been known to produce tornadoes.
It would be just a shame for you to spend years living in at the northern edge of tornado ally just to get killed by one after you move out.
Out of curiosity, how far away from this were you?
* at 813 PM EDT... a tornado was reported by Charles County emergency management officials near Bel Alton... moving east at 40 mph. A tornado on the ground! This is a life threatening situation... take cover now!
That's about 40 miles from me. (I hadn't ever heard of it and had to look it up.) I also spoke too soon about the worst being over. We must have had five waves of really hard rain and lightning and so on!
"I hadn't ever heard of it and had to look it up." The report for that one went out at 8:17pm tonight. What can I say, I'm a freak. I have an RSS feed from the National Weather Service that lists every tornado warning that goes out. So if there is a tornado somewhere in the U.S., I usually know about it within minutes.
"I also spoke too soon about the worst being over. We must have had five waves of really hard rain and lightning and so on!" Ya, you guys are due to get hit over and over again. I think the tornado watch for that area isn't due to end until 1:00am.
