[livejournal.com profile] azure_armand and I spent the weekend in - or mostly, near - Philadelphia. It was fun - a fairly low-key weekend but with a sufficient quantity of actual activities for me to feel like I was really "doing something". We were visiting Oblivious & C & her local friends J & L. The weekend included: staying up late, watching movies, drinking and shooting the shit, grilling, swimming, wandering around a 1100 acre estate, admiring & petting horses, going to a Phillies game (which I found I really enjoyed), and watching the first episode of the most recent incarnation of Dr. Who (which I liked a lot, and have added to my Netflix queue).

I am behind on my Arabic again, and should really be studying right now. Oh well. It seems to be going well, and I am getting good grades so far, but tomorrow we will have a real test for the first time, worth a significant chunk of the grade. Well, we'll see.

Oh yeah. Recently we watched Hot Fuzz. We loved it - I thought it was hilarious - so now we are, finally, watching Shaun of the Dead. If I finish another unit of Arabic drills it will be my reward to myself, to watch more.

At the Bush Artist Fellows reception/orientation, I saw Jeffrey (sp/nm?) Shotts. Being the dutiful little connector that I pretend to be, I mentioned your name. He remembered you and asked after you. I said that you were pursuing a more international focus in your life, and we chatted for a tiny bit. He asked for me to pass on his regards.

Duly passed.

His presentation was quite good and illuminating. I didn't press the connection.

I'm quite fortunate in knowing so many awesome human beings. And I'm always trying to collect more....

Also, when slightly tipsy (darn reception wine), I am apparently prone to using 'quite' a bit too often.

Quite.

Hey, thanks! Do you happen to recall what Jeff is now up to? Is he still at Graywolf?

Yes, he is. His official title is "executive editor." So I gave the right answer as to what you were up to?

Sure, especially because it was a vague answer, and my plans are pretty vague right now! :-)

Ahem! Just FYI, you DO know another person here in philly. *polishes nails on tank top*. Next time you make your way down here, give a shout. I'd love to meet up with you for or drink. Or two. :)

Aaagh! Why didn't I think of that earlier? I wish.

Well, yes. Next time for sure! And likewise if you find your way down in DC, do let me know. We have a very lovely couch-futon and two very lovable cats!

...and drinks. We have drinks, too. :-)

I saw your comment on [livejournal.com profile] sioneva's journal and had a look at your journal, just out of curiosity (I'm curious like that ;-) ), and noticed we have a few things in common (technical writing, scuba diving, Arabic), so I added you if you don't mind.

PS I loved Shaun of the Dead. ;-)
