More house pictures! I'll give you one here and point you to the flickr set for the rest.

Living room before and after

I apologize for the photo quality; all of the house pictures I've taken I've just used my phone, and haven't been too careful about it. But hey, at least it's documented!

The refinished maple floors change the house so much - they're so beautiful. Between them and the walls, we are so much happier with the house now. I'm so excited to see the progress.

Work continues on the bathroom, which will be the most transformed room in the house - but we do at least have running water in the house again. I'm told that this week we will have walls in the bathroom and possibly even be able to tile. We really have to get the walls in, floors laid, and tile done before we put the new toilet and sink in! And we really can't live there until there's a toilet... :-)

Oh, and don't even ask about the kitchen! That will be a project for the fall.

She's not kidding. She lived in a house with nothing but that for a kitchen for 8 years. Doing dishes in the bathtub, even.

K. [PS: your place looks gorgeous!]

Well yes in a dish pan in the tub. Keep in mind we showered in the basement so the tub was not really used for anything else. I don't recommend the 8 year part though.

Thanks guys! I guess our kitchen is not THAT bad in comparison. It's just... the floor is ripped up a bit (but you CAN walk on it), half the cabinets are temporarily gone, and it's currently the dumping ground for all of the painting supplies etc. that had to be cleared out of the rest of the house for the floors to be done. It's pretty tragic right now but it WILL get better... and we should have appliances for most of the time it's being redone. (She says now, optimistically.)

Did you have a fridge in your super minimal kitchen? What did you do for cooling/food preservation if not?

Yes but at some point we had to move it to the dining room. In our kitchen we tore out the cupboards, pulled up two layers of linoleum, redid the electrical, hung new drywall where needed, raised a window, stripped a set of cupboard, refinished them and moved the plumbing, albeit very slowly.
