Job: It's going pretty well. I am getting the hang of things and am getting used to managing people and a lot (to me) of money. It's still a bit alien, though. I like it all right; most days I enjoy what I'm doing. I feel more confident, and I'm finding new things to like about it as I go, which is cool. Today was my 30th day (according to HR), and I got my paperwork turned in for medical, dental, all that stuff. Of course, I've been doing the job for 30 days beyond that, in reality. My boss seems to think I am doing a good job so far; I have been complimented on the smoothness of the transition. Still, I am working more hours than I'm supposed to, because I really want things to work well. This is both good and bad.

Home: Things with the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] azure_armand are good. The cats are healthy. We just signed a two-year lease on our apartment which is a little scary but guarantees our rent will not go up. In our neighborhood, right now, that's pretty valuable.

Weekend: The Memorial Day weekend was filled with: chaperoning a middle-school dance, cleaning, going to see Pericles at the Shakespeare Free-For-All (like Shakespeare In The Park but with a bigger budget), going to the National Arboretum not once but twice (it's nice to sit around in the shade on a hot sunny day), going to Corrosion, the Sunday night Goth night we'd been meaning to check out, eating lentil loaf and ice cream sundaes (not simultaneously)... It was pretty busy, really. I felt good about the weekend.

School: Yep, still have a paper looming over my head. With the 3-day Memorial weekend break under my belt, I may finally feel like I can concentrate on that again. Wish me luck! ... I'm sort of keeping my hand in academically by going to a 2-day weekend course in a week or so; I get no credit for it but I'm interested (it's on Cultures of International Development) and I've arranged it so I don't have to pay anything for it.

Other stuff: I'm excited to have time to sew and do some other things again. I miss my partner in crime, though, especially when it comes time to sewing. I don't really have any buddies for that sort of thing around here. I'm also excited about camping, we have tentative plans to go out and do that in mid-June. And I'm looking for plane tickets to go to MN for July 4th. I bought plane tickets: I arrive in MSP at 9:23 on June 30th; I leave MSP at 4:50PM on the 4th and arrive in DC at 8:16PM. Oooh, I'm so smart. I'm so smart that now I'm going to have to pay a change fee, on top of the exorbitant price for my plane ticket. No really. Who thought it was smart to put CON after the 4th? *thumphead*
...it's hot here, but not like MN. Weird, that y'all have it both colder and hotter (well, hotter for now).

Strange how quickly I can sum up a month or more of not really updating.

Excellent. I thought you were coming in for Convergence (http://www.convergence-con.org/), the following weekend.

I will be home. Let's plan on cooking dinner.

I'll see your "eep" and raise you an "ack!" - especially because I think Matt and I are supposed to room with her and azure...

btw, I see your icon everywhere (as I understand it, there are two of you in one journal?), and I like your posts and we seem to have many good frineds in common. Have we been introduced before? If not, I'd love to finally meet you at CON!

Yep, there's two of us. We like sharing, so we do. I haven't given any thought to ConVergence. I wonder if it is too late to pre-reg?

Not sure? I think pre-reg was over May 15th, but you might be able to do a supporting membership thing, still?

Nice to (virtually) meet you (both). :)

Oh good GRIEF. Whose idea was it to move CONvergence's date like that? Dammit dammit. Now I have to pay to change my ticket. So stupid.

I don't know if we've met. [livejournal.com profile] birdfigment had a birthday party at our house some years ago. And there are other possibilities.

I don't think you've met. [livejournal.com profile] yaaren hosted a post-memorial gathering for some of Miss Rachel's friends, but I don't think you guys went to that.

You will.

And I'd love to come out the weekend before anyway, but I just can't take the vacation time. I will have three days by then, and I'm using all of them.

Hrmm... I don't think I attended that party. Perhaps somewhere else, though.
