Domesticity
Aug. 27th, 2007 09:42 amIt was a pretty low-key, mostly domestic weekend.
azure_armand was feeling a little under the weather, so there was a lot of resting up. We went to sleep so early on Friday that we were able to get up early on Saturday and bike over to the farmer's market in Mount Pleasant, and then have brunch at Dos Gringos. The grapes I got at the farmer's market were outstanding - so very flavorful, in a way that supermarket grapes really never are.
We did go see Stardust on Saturday, which I really enjoyed. Although I could tell there were lots of discrepancies between the book and the movie in terms of plot, I thought the movie was spot-on in terms of feeling... atmosphere, mood, what have you. So I thought it was successful... and more than that, it just plain made me happy. We saw the movie at the Avalon, which is apparently the only independent non-profit movie theater in DC, and is a pretty nice place. It's also not too far from where we live, although it's not at all Metro friendly, so we'd have to drive.
Most of Sunday was pretty domestic; I did a bit of much-needed cleaning, although not enough cleaning... Last night
tomscud came over and we three had a gargantuan meal. A caprese salad appetizer, a cold grilled salad with lots of veggies (eggplant, squash, roasted garlic, red peppers, artichoke hearts, baby tomatoes), some "nice meat" tarragon sausages from the farmer's market, home baked wheat bread from the bread machine, and a dessert of gigantic peach-mango soufflés (I had fruit and eggs to use up). We also finished watching House of Flying Daggers. Very pretty.
