Happy Earth Day!

Really, it's been a great weekend. I left work on Friday evening with a sense of accomplishment and ease of mind, finally feeling like I had things under control. As a bonus, I nailed down having two days off next week (Thursday and Friday).

It was gorgeous weather when I left work on Friday evening, and it's been beautiful ever since, 70s and sunny. [livejournal.com profile] azure_armand and I biked over to [livejournal.com profile] tomscud's apartment. His neighborhood has a lot of families with little kids, and all of them were also out enjoying the weather. Honestly, some of 'em were pretty cute. After navigating the kidlets, the three of us headed to Dukem for a delicious Ethiopian dinner - although it did take forever to get seated, the food was great and we were able to sit outside. We all wandered around the U Street area for a while and hit Alero for a drink. It was great to be out and doing something in the great weather.

I spent a few hours on Saturday morning making a rollerderby shirt with some awesome fabric I got the other week. I'm really pleased with how the shirt came out (pictures ... sometime). Eventually [livejournal.com profile] tomscud, [livejournal.com profile] azure_armand, [livejournal.com profile] msmaryclare, and I all headed waaay out to watch the DC Rollergirls bout! They're a little rough, and the match was pretty uneven, but it was a good time (especially once we acquired beer) and I imagine they'll get better on strategy and whips and stuff as they get more experienced. We ran into some people there that [livejournal.com profile] azure_armand knows from Minneapolis - they apparently moved here a few months ago. After the game, we got dinner at Sunflower, where I tried a vegetarian equivalent of eel - strange. Pretty tasty. That night, I was lazy, and Azure went out to Asylum for the Rollergirls afterparty - and got to hang out with some of the guys who we met at the game earlier.

Today - more gorgeous weather, so Azure and I headed out on the bikes again and headed into Rock Creek Park, where we were delighted to find that Beach Drive is closed to motorized traffic in the northern chunk of the park on Saturdays and Sundays. So we had a long stretch of gorgeous road to ourselves - well, us and the other cyclists, rollerbladers, walkers, etc. There were lots of people out enjoying the weather. We had a picnic and lay around near the creek, and then biked around a bit more. My butt is only a little sore. We'll see what my legs feel like tomorrow - but I'm really glad it's nice enough to be riding again!
