figment: Picture of me + xatharine being silly (aaa)

Last night, I got home from work and immediately began assembling something from our weekend IKEA run, another Expedit shelf for the kitchen. Got that done, moved into place, and a few things into it. Then Azure asked me to lie down and take a nap with him, and even though I was feeling pretty energetic, that sounded nice so I did. 40 minutes later, S4 got me up to loan me his ice cream maker, which is very exciting! So of course I immediately set to work on making this ginger coconut etc. sorbet recipe. And then while that was churning I got to work on my Thing 7 sweater mending that I already posted about. Of course since I have never made ice cream before I was not paying super close attention and didn't notice when it got to the point where I should stick it in the freezer. This didn't damage the machine at all but did mean that I got it into the freezer later than I should have... which meant that the ice cream wasn't really thoroughly ready until about 11 PM. That was later than I meant to, which means that I'm totally going to serve that up, eat it, and count it as my Thing for today. Phooey.
Oh right, while I was in there I also made dinner, tacos with red pepper and onion and fake chicken and refried beans. And we watched Mad Men while I worked on my sweater, since patching it was almost 100% hand work.

I feel kind of busy and a little overwhelmed. But there are still so many things that need doing outside of work! My list of Things To Do When I Got Home was 8 items long yesterday and I only got through 4 of them. I wonder if my expectations weren't a bit unreasonable there.

One of the better time management thingies I was sent to taught me this:

Most people have to-do lists that are too long. The best (or at least better) to-do lists are 5 items long, 2 fairly critical, and with 2 - 3 "expendable" for the moment. This allows items 1 & 2 to expand and mushroom as critical items are want to do, but also allows interruptions and unforeseen circumstances to intervene (like a nap [smile]).

My better executed days are ones when I remember this....

Sounds like you might be creating more work for yourself than you need. Remember you are in control of your list, not the other way around. Don't forget in the midst of everything to take some Beth time. You deserve that too!
