I'm finally trying out Dragon dictate. Although it has some problems, I find I'm really liking it. It's certainly much easier to dictate than it is to type 1-handed!
I actually got the trial version from the Assistive Technology Specialist - and he told me about buying it - I guess AU can get a discount but doesn't have any licenses. It's okay. My department will buy it; it won't come out of my pocket.
I doubt I could have written my dissertation without Dragon - I think my wrists would have broken!
Two suggestions - if you like it and decide to buy, DO NOT buy it from Nuance directly (I was able to pick up a copy from buy.com for $50 or so, and Nuance has customer "service"); make sure you let the language optimizer thing run overnight fairly frequently. It takes a long time, but really does improve recognition.
