How it happened

figmentI think most of you already caught this, but yesterday evening, Joe & I got engaged. (No, we did not elope; the people in the second picture are there for an engagement party.)
We were on the way to have dinner at Marc & Becky's place. Joe had a spot picked out in a park (Melvin Hazen Park) along the way. He told me that he had noticed it was really pretty and wanted to show it to me, and since we had some extra time, it seemed like a great idea. We stopped there and Joe got down one one knee and gave me the ring. We had a few private moments there, (both of us were shaking, I was so emotional that my glasses steamed up) then continued to dinner. But it wasn't really a dinner party, it was a surprise celebration. Thank you to everyone who was there. It was so delightful and special, and I am totally impressed with my fiance who planned all of that! And so many thanks to Marc & Becky for hosting. And the giant bouquet of roses in the group picture? That's fromfayde and xatharine and oblivious. I guess almost everyone knew before I did!
The ring, by the way, is beautiful. It's white gold with a sapphire as the main stone, and little alternating diamonds and sapphires on the band. It's very special and completely "me"... I couldn't be happier. I barely slept last night, I was so excited.
We have not set a specific date, but are tentatively planning on next summer, in Minnesota.
Thanks to everyone who commented on the earlier entry for the good wishes and congratulations. I am so, so excited! Giddy, in fact!
