Food porn

I've dedicated this weekend to food porn. Well, for [livejournal.com profile] azure_armand and myself, and maybe a few others, it's not food porn, it's just food, because we get to eat it. The rest of you get to look at it.

This happened because the CSA that we have been getting veggies from all year has decided to put together a cookbook. Really a cookbooklet, it's not very big. Yours truly volunteered to edit and produce it, and then decided that it was not possible to have a decent cookbook without food photos. So I have been testing out recipes and photographing the results.

Coincidentally, all of these recipes are vegetarian; only one is non-vegan (and could easily be vegan; just omit the dusting of parmesan cheese).

Last night, we had tabouleh

and bamya & mihshi bi zayt.

Today, I made salsa,

and then we had kale soup

and beet salad.

Tomorrow, more!!

(If anyone wants the recipes, or a PDF of the cookbooklet when I'm done, I'll be glad to share.)

I made a tomatillo salsa yesterday with our CSA veggies.

And don't throw away those beet greens. They're delicious cooked.

Funny thing about taboulleh - American recipes, and Leb restaurants in America, almost always make it with big stacks of bulghar wheat. I've never had it in Lebanon with more than the tiniest sprinkling of the stuff. The other day I had my first Lebanese restaurant meal out & someone actually had to ask for some bulghar wheat to sprinkle on top of his tabbouleh to make it taste right.

Sorry it's been a strange weekend.

Yay! Food porn! I for one would love to have a PDF of the recipes. The beet salad looks smashing. aristoi at gmail dot com!! I ran out of time today. I was going to have cottage cheese dilly bread, baked squash, roast chicken and salad. Instead I have an olive quick bread, baked squash, and roast chicken all baking right at this very moment. All I have to do is make a salad and I'm set. Tomorrow is cinnamon raisin bread from scratch. I also bought wine today and could not resist the label called smashed grapes. :)

Mallos writes about that in her recipe, actually. She insists that her Lebanese experts all make it with lots of bulghur, but offers a less-bulghur variation. Do you prefer the more-bulghur or more-parsely variety?

Yay for food porn! It all looks *wonderful*. Good pics, too. :)

I am hoping to get in on a CSA next year, now that I've found ones that do smaller shares. yum!

Gotta say I prefer the more-parsley variety.

I must admit when I read "food porn" the first thing that came to my mind was nyataimori (aka: Naken Sushi).

I'm offering to email a copy of the finished cook book in .pdf format - you know, the format that Adobe Acrobat Reader uses - to anyone who wants it.

I hadn't heard of it until just now. Sounds like a good cookbook to try - thanks!
