House pictures
Jun. 28th, 2012 10:26 amThis is only a partial tour - I got distracted. More pictures soon, of the bedrooms, bathroom, upstairs, & backyard.
Click any of the pictures to see it larger on Flickr.
The outside of the house with its happy homeowners. Also, a nice maple tree.

The front porch. Um, it's a porch! It's not insulated or anything; we might do that in the future to make it more useable through more of the year.

Joe standing in the archway between the living room and dining room.

The living room and front door, seen from the dining room.
![IMG_0642[1]](https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8164/7461090108_44cae296e1_m.jpg)
The rather amazing antique fixture in the dining room... with the totally out-of-place energy-efficient lightbulbs installed. Hmm.

The built-in was a major selling point. Look at the stained glass! (And ignore Joe's backpack.)

The kitchen stove & vent. We'll move our stainless steel stove in.
I don't like the, er, soffits I think they're called, above the cabinets. It seems that they are hollow, so when we have more time and money, we will take them out and either replace the cabinets or move them up or something. Make the space usable. For now, we will just take the wallpaper off of them, repaint, and call it good.

Another view of the kitchen. The window above the sink is nice. The fridge is in a weird place that makes the kitchen an awkward shape. It's something we'd like to change in time.

Through the kitchen, you can see the area that I think used to be the pantry, and is now housing the washing machine. We are thankfully able to climb stairs so we will be moving the washing machine back to the basement, painting this area some color I like more, and re-instating it as a pantry.
Also, stairs to the basement (on right) and back door (on left).

The back porch/mudroom is where they had the dryer. It'll be going back to the basement. Thanks for the bonus laundry baskets!

The basement needs love. I mean, it's a functional basement, but it needs a fair amount of work. I imagine we will start by getting rid of the ghetto not-to-code shower, and the baffling and useless totally fake fireplace.
![IMG_0650[1]](https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7109/7461062714_4b2913e76f_m.jpg)
There was a bonus in the basement: a chest freezer. The outside needs cleaning but the inside is nice and clean and works!
![IMG_0651[1]](https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8021/7461059520_766317acb0_m.jpg)
Back upstairs, a close up of the duck border at the top of the wallpaper that was in the living and dining room.
The wallpaper has to go... and we started taking it down sooner than I thought we would. Like, within three hours of walking in the door.

Some of the six (!) layers of wallpaper we discovered.

Joe and his mom taking wallpaper down. In the archway you can see the actual plaster underneath the lowest layer of wallpaper.

Outside the house, a bunny. Later, two more were spotted. I know that once I plant a garden, I will be cursing the bunnies, but right now they're just cute.

Date: 2012-06-28 04:10 pm (UTC)It might be worth checking the energy-efficiency of the freezer. Some of the older ones can be really horrid, and if it is, it might be worth selling that one and putting a money towards a better one.
