First day at the new job...
wish me luck!

First day went well. It included buying things for people, going to a meeting, lunch, a couple of Dreamweaver appointments, and a bottle of champagne and flowers from my new boss. It also involved a lot of work, scheduling appointments, not having enough time, and a few frustrations. But I think on the whole it was all right.

When I came home, I found two letters from the IRS. One tells me that this year, I may qualify for Earned Income Credit. In other words, I made a really small amount of money this year. The other letter from the IRS says that on my 2004 tax forms, I messed up and did not report some money, to the tune of owing an extra $2K in tax. Eventually, I determined that they were right. Accenture never sent me the 1099s for the money I made from them, and I got confused and thought the Accenture 1099s were rolled into the Retek 1099s (it was really complicated). However, Accenture did report that to the IRS, so it looks like I was trying to cheat the IRS. In reality, Accenture screwed up. I think I'll be sending them an unpleasant letter. If nothing else, they're the reason why I owe interest from then. The only thing saving me from getting really upset about this was that I do have the ability to pay this bill, and now I have a job so I will even be able to make the money back. It'll work out, it just sucks. And I am mad at Accenture.

The weekend, incidentally, it was good. It was a great combination of getting academic work done (17 pages written on my SRP!) and social time with a variety of excellent people, including the elusive (and living in Minnesota) Claude. It went very quickly but I felt very good about the combination.

The cherry blossoms are, in fact, gorgeous. At AU, the trees are starting to lose their petals; when the wind blows, it looks like a light pink snow is falling. Really beautiful. I do love spring in this town, even though the tourists do come out in droves.
