I haven't been very motivated at doing my job lately - I have a couple of tenuous projects to work on and rather a lot of hurry-up-and-wait going on. Don't get me wrong, I still love my job, but the drive has not been there the last couple of days. I trust I'll have it back soon.

But I have been productive at home, mostly. Last night I made a crock-pot recipe (the Pepper Pot Soup that [livejournal.com profile] cloudscudding reminded me about), and made some random lentil vegetable soup, and did a bunch of dishes, and I also made this bag. I polished it up this morning but I really did make the bag almost entirely last night, as well as doing those other things! I felt pretty impressively productive.

The bag/purse is for a friend who's going off to travel the world. I liked the idea of the bag made out of an old pair of jeans but didn't really feel like the usual method was "me" (or my friend). So my bag is somewhat more structured.
Front of bag buttoned
The front flap of the bag. The pocket is obviously from the back of the jeans. It buttons closed with the jeans' original button.
Front pocket and button
The front of the bag under the flap, with another pocket. The pocket is made out of the lining material; I love the world map print and think it works pretty well with the color the jeans had washed/worn out to. You can also see the riveted button just below the pocket - I had to cut it out of the jeans and then sew the whole thing on as a patch, because I don't have the tools to add a riveted button like that. It worked pretty well.
Back with pocket
The back of the bag, with another of the jeans' original back pockets, a couple of little patches made of the lining material, and the strap (also patched with the lining material).
Inside with pocket
The inside, with one more pocket (and my iPhone for scale). This time the pocket is made of denim, for contrast.
I used a fair amount of fusible interfacing on this to make it more sturdy, and hope that the combination of denim, interfacing, lining, and (mostly) careful sewing mean that it lasts for many trips!

Other than that, today was mostly for laundry and then I hung out with the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] alisgray and went shopping. I never do that. I actually bought some clothes, even! Weird. I feel like in that one trip, I have done my quota of shopping for a good while... I'll resume making stuff instead. :-)

Here's hoping tomorrow I can take some of this motivation and productivity to work!

Thank you!
(By the way, it may be terrible of me to say this, but do you miss the "hipness" on sew_hip? I feel like you used to see interesting fashion and cool stuff, and now it's 90% quilts. Which are nice and all, but...)
