There are 30,000 survivors of torture in Minnesota alone.
Is that statistic daunting? Do you wonder what you could possibly do to deal with a problem that big? Do you think, "I don't have more money to give to charities?"
I know, it can be overwhelming. But by giving away something that you don't need any more anyway, you could make specific people's lives much better. Recipients of these items are refugees and survivors of torture. Donating these items helps them to heal, have faith in community again, and find a way to restore their lives, their dignity, and their hope.
If you have any of the following and would like to donate, please contact me and I will put you in touch with the social worker for the case.
Vacuum cleaner
Mattress set (Queen size preferred, but full size would be ok too)
Computer (Prefers laptop, desktop would probably be ok too. Typing software.)
Computer (Laptop or desktop for job searching.)
Computer (Requested for client’s children)
Computer (NOT a laptop. Client uses computer to connect with his community, as he is often homebound)
French books (For 2 clients needing diversion – I will be happy to give feedback about what is appropriate and entertaining for clients…)
Tandem stroller (For a client who has a 9 month old and is due Aug 1)
Sofa and coffee table (Client is expecting baby in a few months and needs more seating/furniture)
(Need met 4/7/2010) Instamatic camera and donation to have pictures developed (Client has no pictures of her baby - this really matters to new moms!)
(Need met 4/8/2010 - thanks
evaluna68!) URGENTLY NEEDED 71/2 sturdy shoes (tennis shoes or others) for pregnant woman or money for shoes - the shoes she presently wears are ripping
