I only left my computer at airport security once, in Las Vegas. Luckily, I remembered while I was still in the airport, and I was able to go back to the security checkpoint and retrieve it.

They had a whole procedure for this in place; I'm sure lots of people leave all sorts of valuable and personal things at airport security.
